Description

The De-icer can be securely mounted to your dock using the included stainless steel mounting plate or an optional post-mounting bracket available for an extra charge. It features a stainless steel yoke assembly that extends up to 7 feet beneath the water. When adding to your cart, you can choose a different mounting option from the menu above (best value) or buy an additional mounting option separately from their product pages: dock post bracket or truss mount bracket.

Our oscillator attachment is fully programmable, allowing you to keep larger areas ice-free without needing a second de-icer. The de-icer rotates in its mount through the oscillator, changing its position every 20 minutes in 20-degree increments. You can set it to any desired radius. After setup, just plug it in and let it run! The oscillator attachment can be added during purchase or after installation.

Features:

  • Designed to operate in all water temperatures.
  • Runs at 3450 rpm.
  • Compared to other de-icers that run under 2000 rpm, even those with 1-hp engines.
  • While competitors move 180 gallons per minute, the Scott De-Icer moves 400 gallons per minute.
  • Constructed from American-made stainless steel.
  • Competitors often use galvanized metal.
Installation

1. Assemble The Unit

Assembling Scott Aerator Fountains takes approximately 15-20 minutes. Instructions will be included with your fountain. The Scott Aerator fountain kits consist of:

  • Pump with cylindrical casing and attached power cable
  • Square float platform
  • Protective stainless steel filter
  • Decorative nozzle (not applicable to the DA-20)
  • 5/16"x2" stainless steel bolts
  • Stainless steel nuts & washers
  • Self-tapping stainless steel screws

Tools Needed: A wrench (or socket driver) and pliers are required.

Assembly Steps:

  1. Begin by placing the fountain housing on a stable surface, with the pump discharge opening facing upwards.
  2. Attach nylon rope (not included) to the two stainless steel eyebolts for anchoring the fountain.
  3. Position the float and secure it with the two 5/16" x 2" bolts, washers, and nuts provided.
  4. Turn the fountain upside down, remove the Styrofoam doughnut, and install the stainless steel filter. Align the pre-drilled holes on the fountain with the filter's position marks. Secure the filter with the three self-tapping screws included.

2. Attach Lights (Skip this step if lights were not ordered)

Scott Aerator fountain light kits easily attach to the square float platform. The light kits include:

  • (2) or (4) LED light fixtures with power cable
  • 1/2" bolts & nuts
  • (2) or (4) stainless steel arm brackets
  • Timer/control unit
  • Remote control (only for color-changing lights)

Tools Needed: Wrench & Pliers

*Note: The included timer/control unit is necessary for operating the lights. Do not disconnect the cord from the control unit, as this will void the lights' warranty.

Assembly Steps:

  1. Attach each arm assembly to the water feature, ensuring the arms are oriented with “L” facing upward. Remove one of the 2" bolts securing the float to your Scott water feature and align the holes with the stainless steel arm. Reinsert the bolt with washer, passing it through the housing, float, and stainless steel arm. Secure with washer and nut. Repeat for the remaining arm assemblies.
  2. Next, attach each light to the slotted end of the stainless steel arms. Insert a 1/2" x 1/4" bolt downward through each light bracket and steel arm, then secure with a 1/4" nut. The lights can be adjusted along the arm by loosening the lock nut, moving the light to the desired position, and then re-tightening the nut.
  3. Connect the lights to the Timer Control Unit by aligning the pins and screwing the connector together a half turn only. Avoid forcing the connection tight to prevent damage to the O-ring or wiring.

3. Place in Water

  • Once the unit is assembled, it is ready to be placed in the water for final setup and anchoring.
  • Handle the fountain carefully; ensure that the weight is not placed on the stainless steel filter.
  • Once the fountain head is submerged, attach it by screwing it into place (not applicable to the DA-20).
  • Float the fountain to the desired location and secure the attached nylon ropes to the shore or use two concrete blocks submerged at least 20 feet apart.
  • The final step is to connect your fountain and lights to your power source. Always use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) and consult a licensed electrical contractor for power source installation.
Buying Guide

Choosing Horsepower

  • The horsepower influences the size and flow rate of your fountain's spray. Higher horsepower results in more water movement and a larger or thicker spray.
  • Your horsepower choice will depend on your budget and pond size. A good guideline is to ensure there is at least 10 feet between the fountain spray and the pond's edge.

Choosing Voltage

  • When in doubt: Contact us.
  • If running 115V power to the pond's edge, be aware of the maximum distances from pump to breaker (including the power cord you order).
  • If using 230V to the pond's edge, distance is generally not a concern.

Motor Size Max distance from pump to breaker on 115V
1/3 HP 115V 280'
1/2 HP 115V 250'
3/4 HP 115V 200'
1 HP 115V 150'

Choosing LED Lights (Optional)

  • Can be purchased now or added later. Light sets easily screw onto the float.
  • Lights operate on 110V and come with their own power cord.
  • Options include single-color warm white LED lights or color-changing LED lights.
  • Both options include a programmable timer, and the color-changing lights come with a remote control that works up to 1,000 feet away.
  • 2-light sets are recommended for 1 HP and below.
  • 3-light sets are recommended for 1.5 HP and 2 HP.
  • 4-light sets are recommended for 3 HP.

Choosing Timers (Optional)

  • Can be purchased now or added later.
  • Timers are designed solely for controlling fountains, not lights.
  • FAQ: The difference between the residential and commercial 230V timer is that the residential box is plastic while the commercial box is metal. Both serve the same function.

Additional Nozzles (Optional)

  • Can't decide between fountains? Scott Aerator fountain pumps are compatible with all Scott Aerator nozzles.
  • Select from 9 unique nozzles to provide various spray patterns!
  • Note: Not all nozzles are available for every motor size. Ensure you choose nozzles that match the corresponding horsepower.

FAQ

Fountains

Q: How do I choose the right fountain?

A: This is a common question and an important one. Start by considering whether your goal is aeration, aesthetics, or both. If aeration is your priority, consider one of our Aerating Fountains, which circulate more water at a higher rate than aesthetic fountains. For aesthetics, there are many options available. Ensure your pond meets the minimum depth requirements and that the display does not exceed the pond's capacity. Each fountain product page includes display dimensions.

Note: Fountains can only aerate water up to about 6 feet deep.

Q: What horsepower is right for my fountain?

A: Horsepower indicates the motor size, which affects the spray pattern size. Ensure your pond is deep enough and that the spray won't reach the edges, regardless of the horsepower selected. Our fountains are best suited for ponds of a quarter acre or larger, depending on shape. Consider your budget and desired size when choosing horsepower.

Q: Should I hire someone to install my fountain?

A: If you don't have a power source installed by the pond, a licensed electrician should handle that. Our fountains are relatively easy to install once the power source is ready. Many customers choose to install their own fountains to save money, but consider your available resources.

Q: Which is better for me: 110-120V or 210-240V?

A: 210-240 volts is generally preferable if the power source is over 70 feet from the main breaker. Ensure your power source can handle the higher voltage to keep your fountain running continuously. Choosing the lower voltage may result in intermittent operation or failure to run at full capacity if the pond is too far from the main breaker. Contact us with any questions.

Q: Are lights included in the price?

A: No, lights are not included by default. You can order them with your fountain or later. Attaching them to the floating unit is straightforward and a worthwhile investment.

Q: What affects the price of the power cord?

A: Material costs play a significant role. Various types of power cords are available for fountains, ranging from 14-gauge copper or stainless steel wire to 4-gauge copper or stainless steel wire, depending on fountain size and cord length.

Q: Can I leave my fountain in the water during winter?

A: Scott Aerator Fountains can operate throughout winter. You can run them continuously or turn them off completely. Once the ice melts, they can be reactivated.

Aerators

Q: Can aeration help maintain my fish's health and clean my pond?

A: Absolutely. Aeration is the first step in clearing a pond.

Q: How do I choose the right aerator?

A: The size and depth of your pond will determine this. Our website categorizes products based on pond size (in acres). Surface Aerators and Aerating Fountains are suitable for ponds under six feet deep, while Sub-Surface aerators are recommended for deeper ponds.

Q: How do I install my aerator?

A: Consult a licensed electrician if a power source has not been installed by the pond. Our aerators are designed for easy installation once the power source is ready. Many customers successfully install the equipment themselves to save money, but consider your resources.

Q: How should the aeration setup be configured?

A: An ideal setup includes a surface aerator or aerating fountain along with a Sub-Surface aerator. A surface aerator or fountain circulates oxygen released from the pond's bottom effectively.
